No matter how much Lord Curzon preached his administrative explanation or noble intentions behind the partition of Bengal, there was actually a deep conspiracy behind it.
Lord Curzon's Real Purpose in Partition of Bengal:-
(i) Weakening of Bengalis:- Curzon's objective was to 'divide | By making the Hindus a minority in East Bengal by the 'Government, and Rule' policy, building a wall of division between Hindus and Muslims. On the other hand, weakening the Bengali nation.
(ii) Weakening of the Nationalist Movement:- He knew that a crack in Bengali Hindu-Muslim unity would weaken the nationalist movement in India. Because at that time Bengali and Bengalis were the bearers and bearers of India's nationalist movement.
(iii) Weakening of Congress:- At that time (1905 AD) the top leaders of National Congress were Bengalis. Therefore, to destroy the unity of Bengalis means to weaken the unity and solidarity of the National Congress.
(iv) Stability of the British Government:- Curzon's main objective was to serve the political interests of the British Government in the country through the partition of Bengal. That is, to increase the stability of the British government in this country by de-risking it.
Comment:- But the sad thing is that Cambridge group researchers support Curzon's decision
to partition Bengal. They say that Congress had no noble motive behind the
anti-partition movement or the Swadeshi movement.
বঙ্গ বিভাজনের পিছনে লর্ড কার্জনের প্রকৃত উদ্দেশ্য কী ছিল ?
বঙ্গ বিভাজনের পিছনে লর্ড কার্জন যতই তাঁর প্রশাসনিক ব্যাখ্যা বা মহৎ উদ্দেশ্যের কথা প্রচার করুন না কেন আসলে এর পিছনে ছিল তাঁর গভীর চক্রান্ত।
বঙ্গ বিভাজনে লর্ড কার্জনের প্রকৃত উদ্দেশ্য:-
(i) বাঙালিকে দুর্বল করা:- কার্জনের উদ্দেশ্য ছিল ‘ডিভাইড | সরকার, অ্যান্ড রুল' নীতি দ্বারা পূর্ববাংলায় হিন্দুদের সংখ্যালঘু করে হিন্দু ও মুসলমানদের মধ্যে বিভেদের প্রাচীর গড়ে তোলা। পক্ষান্তরে বাঙালি জাতিকে দুর্বল করা।
(ii) জাতীয়তাবাদী আন্দোলনকে দুর্বল করা:- তিনি জানতেন বাঙালি হিন্দু-মুসলমানের ঐক্যে ফাটল ধরলেই অংশগ্র ভারতের জাতীয়তাবাদী আন্দোলন দুর্বল হবে। কারণ সেই সময় বাংলা তথা বাঙালি ছিল ভারতের জাতীয়তাবাদী আন্দোলনের জোর ধারক ও বাহক।
(iii) কংগ্রেসকে দুর্বল করা:- সেইসময় (১৯০৫ খ্রিস্টাব্দ) নিবে জাতীয় কংগ্রেসের শীর্ষস্থানীয় নেতারা ছিলেন বাঙালি । সুতরাং, বাঙালির ঐক্য বিনষ্ট করা মানেই জাতীয় কংগ্রেসের ঐক্য ও সংহতিকে দুর্বল করা।
(iv) ব্রিটিশ সরকারের স্থায়িত্ব:- কার্জনের প্রধান উদ্দেশ্য ছিল বঙ্গ বিভাজনের মধ্যদিয়ে এদেশে ব্রিটিশ সরকারের রাজনৈতিক স্বার্থ চরিতার্থ করা। অর্থাৎ, ব্রিটিশ সরকারকে বিপদমুক্ত করে এদেশে তার স্থায়িত্ব বৃদ্ধি করা।
মন্তব্য:- কিন্তু দুঃখের বিষয় এই যে, কেম্ব্রিজ গোষ্ঠীর গবেষকগণ
কার্জনের বঙ্গভঙ্গের সিদ্ধান্তকে সমর্থন করেছেন।তাঁরা বলেছেন যে, বঙ্গভঙ্গ বিরোধী আন্দোলন
বা স্বদেশি আন্দোলনের পিছনে কংগ্রেসের কোনো মহৎ উদ্দেশ্য ছিল না।
